Please note: You do not need to purchase a separate restrictor gate for this insert. It is designed to work with your Sanwa JLF's existing GT-8F gate. It is not compatible with the Sanwa JLF-TPRG-8AYT-SK Silent Microswitch Joystick, as the restrictor plate does not allow swapping an insert.  You may try purchasing a GT-8F plate for that model however.

The Sanwa GT Y Octagonal Restrictor Plate is one of our most popular products.  Players love the smoother, circular  motions that this product offered.  The actual clear plastic gates themselves, however, are already installed in most Sanwa JLF series joysticks as the Sanwa GT-8F 4/8-Way Restrictor Plate

Every Sanwa JLF-series Joystick, including Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT Joystick or Sanwa JLF-TP-8Y-SK Joystick (No Plate Installed) comes with the Sanwa GT-8F restrictor plate.  This clear plastic plate houses a square-shaped insert that allows for up, down, left, right and diagonal movement.  While effective, it doesn't feel as natural when attempting to perform quarter-circle, half-circle, or full-circle (360-degree) motions.  These motions are common in most fighting games, which a square gate cannot reproduce easily.  The translucent yellow insert, which contains the octagonal guide, is the most important part.  If you already own the GT-8F restrictor plate on every Sanwa JLF, buying another just for the GT-Y insert seems like a wasted purchase.

The clear GT-Y insert we offer is molded with the exact same specifications as the yellow insert available in the official Sanwa GT-Y, and works just as well.  Hadoken, Shoryuken and Spinning Piledriver attacks are fluid and easy to perform.

    A fantastic deal!

Now, with Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT Joystick or Sanwa JLF-TP-8Y-SK Joystick (No Plate Installed) purchase, you can option bundle the GT-Y insert for just 45 cents!

    1. Combos come out easily.

I have been using this kind of Octagonal Restrictor Plate Insert instead of Square one and it is much better for action games in my case Street Fighter 2 & 3 works perfect, more Hadokens, Hurricane Kicks, etc on Aug 10th 2017

    2. Surprisingly Natural!

Since I wanted to make a fight stick for tekken utilizing an octagonal gate than a square gate.
I wanted to experiment since I've been watching reviews and etc.
I am definitely more used to octagonal than I am with the stock JLF square gate.
Since I was going for a close-to approach with a circle gate with a battop lever.

This definitely helped me perform much, much better!
For specific other fighters/characters it may not be your thing, but it depends on your personal preference.

Backdashing, Korean Backdashing and etc is really comfortable for me in this.

    3. Small Price Big Improvement

Do yourself a favor and swap these out. Easy to change out. I bought a few extras for the custom builds I have done. on Apr 22nd 2017

    4. Just Buy It Already!!

Swapping the 4 way insert for this one made a huge difference. The fit was perfect. For the price buy an extra set just in case. I did!! on Apr 5th 2017

    5. Simple and efficient

I have a Quanba Q4 RAF stick. Exchanging just this plate insert in place of the default square insert, instead of changing the whole restrictor worked very well. It is not a difficult operation. But check a tutorial on the web. on Feb 8th 2017

    6. My DP's are so butter now!

Was useing a 4 way for a while they I milked that out to a solid oval and hated my life choices so I said to my self " well you sucked with the square you sucked with the circle you have tinge good with the octagon!!" I was wrong....I get perfect dps every time I go for them! on Jan 27th 2017

    7. Gate rider

I'm a scrub and this makes arcade stick play more fun. on Dec 12th 2016

    8. Works great at a great price.

Easy to put on. on Nov 15th 2016

    9. Best for new users

      Very easy to put in.
Feels the same as my friends actual sanwa gate.
Best for player getting into arcade sticks. Too many times Ive had people get really confused to why does it have to be in a square.
Highly recommend getting this if you are getting a new joystick so you can get it for 1$.

    10. Works perfectly, give it a go - you never know

Works as advertised, allowing a nice and even spinning motion.

Diagonals are a little trickier to locate, something that more practice will likely resolve, and stick travel is slightly increased (unless you also change out the actuator).

In the end I went back to the trusty square gate, but you can't go wrong for the price they're at to find out if they're for you.
