Quarter-circle, half-circle and full 360 motions no longer take effort or feel unnatural after installing a Sanwa GT-Y Octagonal Restrictor Gate into your TE or Hori/Sanwa JLF setup.  A full 8 corners allows for smoother and more responsive motions for fireball, dragon-uppercut and spinning piledriver attacks.  Those investing their time in wrestling chars such as Zangief or Shoto chars such as Ryu, Ken, Sakura, Akuma, and Dan(!), deserve to swap out their existing 4-way gate for this one.

The Sanwa GT-Y Octagonal Restrictor Gate is compatible with the Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT Joystick and Sanwa JLF-TP-8Y-SK Joystick (No Plate Installed).

    1. Quite Literally Night and Day

I'm a relative newbie when it comes to stick modification but I'm currently running a Sanwa JLF in a Razer Panthera which came with a square gate. After dropping too many Hilda combos in UNIST I decided to spring for the Octo gate and 236 motions are smoother than they've ever been. Installation/replacement of the existing gate was painless and it completely changed my gameplay. The plastic for this gate is what you expect from Sanwa, Dense and meaty - just like my lever motions now. on Jan 22nd 2020

    2. Turn my Arcade1up from "bleh" to "yeah"

After buying the Arcade1up cabinet, I thought I had just gotten rusty at Mortal Kombat because I lost every match and couldn't do any special moves or fatalities. After installing this 8-way (which only took a few minutes), everything is crisp and special moves are easy to pull off just like I remember.

I still lose every match but now I know that it is my fault.

    3. Best gate for *ANY* 8-way games.

As somebody who primarily uses their stick for tetris, I'm used to the sharp, exact precision of a 4-way gate. The feeling of the stick snapping perfectly into the direction you want to input is the most satisfying thing you can feel on a joystick. This octo gate allows you to take that feeling into 8-direction games perfectly. Whether it's a fighting game or an arcade classic, if it requires 8-direction input, it requires this gate. on Dec 3rd 2019

    4. Must have upgrade for A1UP fighting games

Not sure why A1UP things square gates make sense in a fighting game... Upgraded MKII A1UP machine with these and the 4lb springs. Major difference. Went from mushy controls to precise, direct inputs. on Nov 26th 2019

    5. Exactly what I needed

For anyone wondering, this does fit on the Qanba Crystal so I'd assume it would fit on any Qanba stick as they're basically a Sanwa knock off. If you prefer an octo gate there's little to say as it works perfectly, but if you're just curious like I was it's a cheap investment and super easy to install. I've come out definitely preferring the change! on Nov 9th 2019

    6. My Go To

All of my sticks have been outfitted with an 8way gate, it's the only way to play fighting games, for me anyway. I recommend it to everyone modding their JLFs on Nov 2nd 2019

    7. worth the waiting

Sanwa GT-Y Octagonal Restrictor Gate is good as I expect because I'm now to arcade stick and it hot swap easy to install on my stock Panthera EVO stick (SANWA JLF). on Oct 31st 2019

    8. Perfect

Purchased for my Qanba Dragon. Easy fit, perfect control for games. 10/10 on Oct 31st 2019

    9. Perfect for fighting games

As much as I liked my stock Sanwa sometimes my moves didn't come out just right. I didn't think changing just the gate would fix it, but I was wrong, Power Geysers, Raging Storms and the like are far easier to pull off now, if you play Street Fighter or SNK fighters this is definitely worth the cost on Oct 24th 2019

    10. Great for arcade fighters

I bought a pair of these for my Arcade1Up Street Fighter II cabinet that I had installed Sanwa JLF joysticks in (with 4lb springs). Though the default JLF offer both 8 and 4 way compatibility by switching the rotation of the gate, it's not ideal. The default 8-way features four locking positions, basically each of the corners, so in fighting games where you need to hit specifics like down, up, left and right, it's really easy to trigger a corner movement instead.
Transition to having the octagonal gate installed there are now eight, what I call "locking positions" where the joystick can easily rest not only in the corners but up, down, left, and right as well. For fighting games it just makes the experience so much better, while other arcade games (Pac-Man) may only need four way or eight way without this gate. If you have a Sanwa JLF that you intend to play fighting games with, do yourself a favor and buy this restrictor gate.
